I usually fly on CO and has just applied for their One Pass acct for myself and daughter.
Ft #1 CLE to LAS in May.
They raised their fares quite a bit, so what can I do? I did get notice of their "survey" opportunities to earn miles, most are miles with purchases, I found out, I though it would be mostly during surveys.
Chase denied me for one of their credit cards, so what can I do?
Thanks for all the great info, including the mentioned link.
I also have several thousand miles with UA, and have no idea what to do with them, wish I could transfer them to CO.
Welcome to FT Happymom2008. Fellow Clevelander and CO flier here. I haven't been doing many mile runs lately. But when I did I was flying CLE-IAH-SEA-iah-cle or SFO. Keep a watch with the link marinersdave gave you and look everyday to see if anything drops in price.
As for lounge access I have an american express plat that gives me access to CO Club when I fly CO. If you dont already have a plat amxp look into it if you will be flying CO. Plat card gives you access to other airline lounges when you fly. here is a link to learn more about the plat card if you do not already have the card https://www143.americanexpress.com/cards/platinum/benefit.do?benefitTemplate=template_c&benefitId=1
Also watch FT daily for any deals.
1. I am Platinum Elite and I got upgraded 66% of the time out of CLE in the last 12 months.
2. It’s always best to book on CO.com, but you can get full EQMs anywhere with the right fare class.
3. Every hub is plagued by the present-day biblical locust called regional jets.
4. Platinum upgrades are the easiest to come by.
5. The Credit Card helps you get upgrades (using miles) and is therefore worth a little more than squat.
6. Gold status is very useful. As a Gold, I was given an operational upgrade to BF on a 777 to Paris. ^ The 100% bonus EQMs is also useful.
7. I get complimentary upgrades more often than I expected—even once getting both my sons upgraded with me to FC. ^
8. The longer the flight, the better is an upgrade. Getting even a few a year is better than several to hour-away airports.
Happy flying! :)
As stated before, everyone has an exception to the rule; and he says he got his son u/g once.. there is his
my reference to gold/silver was to u/g's only as I believe I stated in my first post, i realize that the bonus comes into play but that wasn't my point
congrats on a 66% rate, but without any fare basis to go on, what good is it.. thats lousy if its all Y and great if its all the lowest fare bucket
lol on 100% eqm anywhere but the right fare class... how does that differ from what I said???
no one has argued that Plat upgrades are the easiest to come by.. where was my information inaccurate regarding that?
true on the CC miles, good luck using them domestically, and if you are using them int'l you may want to mention the hefty co pays all in the name of accuracy of course
I wouldn't be trying to sell the OP on op ups; she'll be lucky to ever get one

I'm not expecting much and I know it takes a very long time to get to Plat. I did get 100% millage, not .05.
75k sounds like I'll have a lot of travel to make.
I don't really understand all the codes they have listed.
I still don't believe they don't mail out plastic OP cards, I had to print mine from my email. To me, that is tacky handing over to a check-in attendant.
So, with hopes dashed, how can I earn/get/beg miles???
I tailored it for domestic MR fares from CLE on CO sorted by price per mile. This is a good place for beginning "farespotting".

Well IMHO and I'm a "former" skyteam guy for reasons explained later; so take it for what its worth. Sure there will be examples told of exceptions to each of the rules below and I'm sure they exist, but I'm talking in general terms here
1. you will need to be a Plat (75K EQM) to have a reasonable chance of getting upgraded on a regular basis especially out of a CO hub
2. unless you book everything at CO.com or book high fare codes, you will get 0.5 EQM which make attaining plat much more difficult (reason #1 I left CO as I am required to book via another booking engine for business)
3. CLE from what I recall was becoming an RJ hub, or ALL RJ ALL the time; on that note, not much need for plat status b/c there aren't u/g's on RJ's
4. Plat upgrades in general were harder and harder to come by unless you booked on a high fare basis (Reason #2a I left CO)
5. the Credit Card doesn't do squat for you regarding upgrades (I mean this relative to obtaining status)
6. Gold is almost useless; Silver is Useless (I'm speaking u/g's here); I am just waiting for the G/S elite to say I got u/g CLE-ORD or something like that.. woo hoo
7. If you are expecting a lot of comp upgrades for a traveling companion.. you are in for a surprise
8. Transcons are nearly impossible to u/g at anything but Plat on high fare basis on peak travel days (Reason #2b I left)
you are starting from zero so if you don't expect much, fine, you are in great shape, if you are expecting a lot once you hit silver, you'll be in for treat, and I don't mean that in a good way
Now let the ST homers take over and sell you on the why you should do this and I'm sure that they can add ways to do this cheaply (esp via NW)
