• My parents were on the above noted flight this morning which was originally a domestic 767. I had told my dad to try for an earlier flight to make the 747 and get the international J class seat. But he did not want to get up that early.

They were pleasantly surprised upon boarding to find the seating arrangement 1- 2-2 . They had the 2 starboard seats and found the seats superb as well as the service.

Taxied out, took off and then about 30 minutes after wheels up off goes the smoke alarm. People start moving around rather quickly, initially my dad thought they should shut it off before he realized he was on an aircraft and this was not done.

So the captain comes on, and announces they were diverting to YYZ as a result. At touchdown they were greeted by the fire department and escorted to some area for a brief inspection. Apparently they used thermal sensors to try and detect heat in the cargo holds. Everything was fine and they taxied in.

In then got interesting now when the next flight was 15:00 to YVR for space in J class.
But very well handled by AC they were most pleased by the professionalism all around.

  • Nice to hear that everything is all right! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I think that explains why the 3:15p is 100% sold out and J is completely full for the 4:15p & 5:15p.
